Palm Sunday is the 6th week of Lent, and it also marks the beginning of Holy Week.
Palm Sunday is an important day in our liturgical calendar. Why? Well, it is the day that Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem, on his donkey, while people laid down their cloaks and branches of leaves before him. As Jesus enters, children sing "Hosanna," which is known to be joyful praise. The symbolism of the donkey is usually meant as peace, so it shows that Jesus is entering as our Prince of Peace. Even in mass for Palm Sunday, palm leaves are used to reenact what happened as Jesus entered Jerusalem, as we sing "Hosanna."
Palm Sunday is also known to be "Passion Sunday" because the Gospel reading for this Sunday is Jesus' Passion. This is the (quite long) reading that is the death of Jesus. As we reenact the triumphal entry of Jesus with palm leaves, we also reenact the death of Jesus during the Gospel.
