After he baptized Jesus in the Jordan, John the Baptist was IMPRISONED. He had so many followers whom he then instructed to follow JESUS instead of him. This is what the gospel is about: John the Baptist completing his task of the VOICE that CRIES OUT IN THE WILDERNESS-to make way for the Messiah JESUS CHRIST.
